Over57.com strives to pursue 6 of the 17 goals set by the UN agenda for sustainable development at international level

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is an action program for people, the planet and prosperity signed in September 2015 by the governments of the 193 UN member states. It incorporates 17 Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. The official launch of the Sustainable Development Goals coincided with the beginning of 2016, guiding the world on the way to go over for the next 15 years: indeed, member states have committed themselves to reaching them by 2030.

These 17 objectives and the 169 sub-objectives associated with them constitute the vital core of the 2030 Agenda. They take into account in a balanced way the three dimensions of sustainable development, namely economic, social and ecological. For the first time, a single policy document brings together sustainable development and the fight against poverty.

Goal 1

End all forms of poverty in the world

Goal 3

Ensuring health and well-being for everyone and all ages

Goal 4

Providing quality, equitable and inclusive education and opportunities for learning for all

Goal 5

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Goal 8

Fostering lasting, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, productive employment and decent work for all

Goal 10

Reduce inequality within and among nations.

Over57.com takes care of people

The Over57.com platform was designed and created to mitigate a social problem such as that of retirees and those who have lost their jobs during their golden age and are forced to inactivity while having the need or desire to continue to share their own skills and experience. Our main goal is to improve, by 2030, the quality of life of people over 57 who suffer from diseases and pathologies related to apathy, loneliness, inactivity, depression or economic difficulties. We offer them the opportunity to get in touch with other people and to continue to be active by carrying out temporary activities that allow them to maintain contact with the world of work and to supplement their income.

What is well-being?

The concept of well-being concept touches many aspects of life. There is economic, physical, social, psychological, relational, spiritual, nutritional, cultural, environmental well-being. To live peacefully, each individual has to find his/her own dimension, putting the emphasis on what is important to him/her and in the background what is not. Well-being is also when a person has the ability to live his/her own life with satisfaction, awareness, freedom, autonomy and by feeling grateful for what he/she has achieved. Briefly, positive acceptance of ourselves and of our role in society.

What is well-being?

Well-being also comes from knowledge

Quality education is the basis for improving people’s lives and thus achieving sustainable development. One of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda - number 4 - concerns precisely this aspect: the achievement of quality, equitable and inclusive education, and learning opportunities for all.

Knowledge is expressed in many areas, one of which is the offer given by Over57.com. We believe that the targeted and conscious use of electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets or computers plays an increasingly fundamental role. These devices accompany us in everyday life and are often indispensable tools for carrying out countless activities: making payments, booking a hotel or a flight, inquiring about services or products or simply staying in touch with your network thanks to social networks or (video) calls.

However, making the best use of these devices is not always easy and it is therefore not surprising that more and more individuals, especially if not very young, need help. Over57.com aims to support over 57 years old people thanks to short and specific courses, which could be defined as “technological pills”, to make mature people much more confident and “technologically” independent. And this thanks to a double value since these trainings affect both the motivational and the formative aspects.

Sustainability starts with small gestures

Each of us can do something to safeguard the planet.
Let’s pay more attention to the small daily gestures and let’s make a difference!
Let’s not waste water

Let’s not waste water

Water is an extremely precious commodity, let’s not waste it. Let’s get used to turning off the tap while brushing our teeth or shaving, let’s prefer showering to bathing, let’s repair dripping taps or pipes, , let’s wash vegetables by soaking them instead of running them under running water, let’s use the washing machine and dishwasher with a full load.

Let’s reduce the consumption of electricity

Without realizing it, we waste a lot of energy every day. This is the reason why it is of fundamental importance to change our attitude. Let’s buy energy class A appliances and unplug them when we are not using them, let’s turn off the light when we leave a room or let’s use low-consumption light bulbs. If possible, we could consider the use of renewable energy such as solar, hydroelectric or wind power.

Let’s do separate collection and recycling

Careful separation of waste collection is the first step towards recycling and reuse of raw materials. In fact, most materials can have a second life as long as they are disposed of correctly. Let’s therefore collect waste separately and try to recycle as much as possible. Let’s avoid waste and do not use plastic plates and cutlery and reuse everything that can be reused.

Let’s reduce meat consumption

Meat consumption has a huge impact on the environment and on health. The agricultural sector is responsible for about a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions, of which over 60% comes from the increasingly intensive production of meat and animal derivatives. Let’s think about our well-being, that of animals and the planet and let’s choose a varied diet, where fruit, vegetables and vegetable proteins occupy an important place. This does not mean completely renouncing the consumption of food of animal origin. When we buy them, however, make sure that they come from organic and non-intensive farms.

Let’s use our car less than usual

Daily commuting has an important impact on the quality of our life. Taking public transport, walking, using a bicycle or e-bike instead of a car brings benefits to our health. A lower level of air pollution is in fact fundamental for our well-being and that of the planet. Finally, let us not forget that sustainable mobility also allows us to save money.

Let’s buy local and seasonal products

As far as possible, let’s try to buy seasonal food from our local territory. In this way we contribute to the reduction of pollution related to their transport and their conservation. Let’s prefer products from sustainable agriculture and let’s favor small producers: both our health and the local economic fabric will benefit.

What is well-being?

Let’s safeguard the planet

Our planet is suffering. Climate warming, erosion of glaciers, desertification, extreme climatic events and the risk of extinction of many animal species are just some of the dangers we run. The cry of alarm, increasingly acute, comes from scientists and associations for the protection of the environment from all over the world. We too can give our contribution.
